Parents sometimes have a hard time accepting the choices their children make. I think it comes from them always making choices for you when you're a child, and once you're old enough to make your own decisions, they have to learn how to step back say "You're grown, it's your life."

When my oldest sister came out, it almost killed my mother. She's a very religious woman and strong in her beliefs, and it took her a while to accept my sister's lifestyle, but eventually, she came to grips with it. She doesn't love her any less, but she just doesn't approve of her dating woman, with that said, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I'm sure you're mother doesn't love you any less for being a lesbian, it'll probably just take her a while to accept it and be comfortable with the idea of you possibly bringing a woman home, instead of a man.

I have a 20 year old gay cousin. I've never met him, but his family came to visit a couple of months ago, they're die-hard conservatives. Believe me the adults were making political jabs the whole time (My mom left her Obama '08 pin out where my aunt would see it XD). Anyways, apparently my aunt wanted to name the son Jamey, but her husband found it to be a girly name (now it's my brother's name), my mom said it was "Poetic Justice" for him being a homophobe and hopefully he's learned some tolerance.

But I don't get any real jabs at sexuality, I'm straight but I don't show general interest in people, at least around family.

my mum don't know, but she's always going on and on about how gay people are gonna burn in hell. for as long as i can remember she's done that. i don't wanna know what it's gonna be like to deal with her after i tell her. next week.

I hope things don't turn for the worst.

A friend of mine told me her mom said to her that if she was gay or anything like that she would get kicked out, and she's bisexual.

It pissed me off what a friend of mine said. She said that Bisexuals are just people who are straight but want to be cool (???)

If they're actual Christians sooner or later they have to admit that it's a sin to hate man. No matter what they've done or who they are God frowns upon hate (I have had a lot of Christian friends, I'm actually an atheist XP) and those who worship that feeling themselves will burn in Hell. Hopefully if she hears from your side and everything she might turn around...a bit.

I'm openly bisexual but only because I've fallen in love with one guy before. So technically I 'lean' towards girls, my mom told me that she's fine but for the first few months she was hoping it would just phase away.

The mind is complex and you never know what you're going to get until and action is placed. : D

I'm straight, but i live in a liberal town. so i have plenty of gay/lesbian friends, my best friend is transgender, and i love him entirely. I haven't experienced first hand the troubles of being gay, well i guess i kind of have since i kissed derek in the hallway at school, but i didn't care, he's my friend, i kiss alomst all my friends at some point in time, but 90% of my gay friends have accepting families, so they've been lucky i guess, to be blessed with such unconditional love from thier families, most kids now regardless of sexuality don't have accepting parents or family members, it's a sad, pathetic world we live in... but hey, iowa just legalized gay marriage, yay. about damn time.

normally, I would say go for it an tell her, she's you're mother and she would love you anyway, but I hate how often that ends up being wrong.

Good luck with it, I hope you're mom is on the accepting side of things.

I'm waiting for the nation as a whole to pull their heads out of their asses and legalize it in a whole. But then, the world seems to have an understanding of what seems to piss me off. XD

I really hope Texas is next...
