Image modification...how do you feel about it?

In a society where image seems to be every thing it is very hard not to get wrapped up in body (head included) modification. From changing yer hair color to completely altering yer natural self it seems every body has gotten into it. Myself, I tend to dye my hair with every changing season.
Tattoos, piercing, dyed hair, and plastic surgery are four of the most common body mods that almost every person on the planet has participated in.
While most are content with a few piercings, some different hair color, or a couple tattoos to express themselves as individuals, many people take it to drastic measures.

Call me old fashion, but I’m not exactly on boat with lip injections, nose jobs, breast implants, etc. etc…but that’s just me and I know I might get some angry feed back but I am entitled to my opinion and I’m not trying to push any one into feeling as I do. Although this might contradict with what was just stated I am on boat with transsexual operations…but that is another discussion.

Here are a few questions I have asked myself and was wondering how other people would answer them:

How far is too far?

If you fell in love with someone who was perfect (ly flawed ;P) in yer eyes, would you be ok with them modifying their appearance with plastic surgery?

How do you feel when you see our youth wanting to increase or decrease the size of something because they feel it will make them more confidant and/or beautiful?

Lastly, what are some of yer experiences with image modification, or plans for future mods?

Let's keep an open mind and hear all sides before deciding what's wrong and what's right.

Metal,

I agree…wouldn’t it be nice if we had to have a psychiatric analysis before we are aloud to have plastic/cosmetic surgery? Or at least some sort of therapy…I bet there would be a lot less people who decide to go under the knife. That’s just my opinion though.
Piercings and tattoos aren’t as major…I still think it’s always a bad idea to have a lovers name or image inked on.

You know that's a great idea...the whole undergoing psychiatric analysing...I think it would help a lot :)

I have alot of visible tattoo's which means I'm heavily modified. When you see that though, you know something about me. Its not hidden or done in secret. On the other side, I have my septum pierced, which I don't take out in public for either work, or when I do wear it after a day or two my nose gets sore and the retainer goes back in.

If you had some horrible face taking accident, plastic surgery is very justifiable. Or if you popped out a couple of kids and wanted to give the boobs a lift to go back to the way you were. People who get lipo, dieting and exercise is very easy. There are natural ways to get rid of stretch marks to, don't necessarily agree with weight reducing surgeries.

As far as make up goes, when you can't see the makeup is when it bothers me. Its not you, your hiding something. Some women (and men) they do the extreme eye shadow thing, which is cool sometimes. But if you can't leave the house without it on, you got issues.

You forgot to mention to about body building. Its a form of extreme modification. I agree with that a whole lot more than others. Its more or less healthy, if you leave the steroids and crap like out of it. A little grotesque but to each there own.

At times I wish I had less body hair or none at all sy my tattoo's would be better.

What about people going bald who get the hair plugs or whatever they do.

The youth are to acceptable to the input from MTV or other crap sources about life. They shouldn't be allowed to get cosmetic surgery save for extreme circumstances.

Evil,

Whoa! Yer absolutely right in that I forgot all about body building. I guess I never really think about it because of how conventional it is but it’s not that different from other body modification practices when you think on it.

Thanks for widening the discussion.

Thought about something else, what about hair plugs or false teeth. I'm going bald because of my shitty genes, but I can pull off a shaved head like a champ. As for false teeth, I'm not sure. Be easier to eat, and people won't look at you like your a piece of crap.

i think plastic surgery is gay when it's for nose jobs, lips, big breast and etc. but i think it's a good thing when people have health related issues and stuffs like that....

btw i don't mind piercings either except some people do wear alot of them.... but that's another story i think?..... lol sorry i'm sort of not thinking straight......

How far is too far?

when you don't look like yourself -- or a human anymore

it depends why.
.
How do you feel when you see our youth wanting to increase or decrease the size of something because they feel it will make them more confidant and/or beautiful?
i find myself shocked TBH. I'm only 15, and kids who are still techanlly in my generation are doing/wanting to do things that are beyond stuipid. I know a twleve year old who wants a boob job.

Lastly, what are some of yer experiences with image modification, or plans for future mods?
I have double ear peircing, and i dye my hair more often than can possiably be healthy
i want a few more piercings, and possiably a tatoo, but nothing major

I am what I am. Nuff said. And as a male might I say I absolutely detest boob jobs?
